OMAHA, NE -- South Carolina captured the 2010 NCAA College World Series Championship in dramatic fashion Tuesday (June 29) night, defeating UCLA, 2-1 in 11 innings. That victory marked the 10th national championship for an ISP-partner university this year.
The Gamecock win was made all the more memorable by USC junior Whit Merrifield's game-winning single in the bottom of the 11th. Merrifield's father Bill has been a vital part of ISP since the company's founding in 1992, currently serving as a senior vice president involved with all sales development and management.
UCLA, also part of the ISP family, was denied a third NCAA Championship for the 2009-2010 athletic year. The Bruins previously earned national crowns in women's gymnastics and softball.
Other NCAA Championships won by ISP schools this year included: Villanova women's cross country, Villanova football (FCS), Alabama football (FBS/BCS), TCU rifle, Boston College men's ice hockey, Duke men's basketball and Duke men's lacrosse
